Things to do this week: Ay-Up Market is Back, The Circus is in Town, Plus a New Coffee Spot Opens!

Morning! This week’s got a bit of everything, and it’s mostly centred around the weekend. Ay-Up Market takes over Old Market Square for three days with loads of independents, street food, live music, and enough kid-friendly bits to keep everyone busy.

Circus Zyair is in town as well, so you’ve got big daytime shows for families, then on Sunday you can finish with Cane Corso puppy therapy if you fancy an hour of being climbed on by tiny tanks.

Ay-Up Market is basically the city centre showing off. Over 90 independent traders, loads of street food and drink stalls, plus live music across the weekend so it’s not just shopping bags and sore feet. There’s family stuff too like bookable workshops, face painting and crafts on Saturday and Sunday, and a hook a duck stall for anyone who wants to relive being eight. Sunday also brings the Dog Ross show, so yes, you can end the weekend watching a dog do bits in the middle of the square.

Black Sheep has landed on Clumber Street and it’s one for the coffee snobs. They’re big on speciality grade robusta as well as arabica, so the espresso has a bigger caffeine kick, a richer crema, and flavours that still cut through milk.

If you’re the mate who orders by bean and roast, you’ll be happy here. Plenty of seating and wifi too, so you can sit there judging everyone’s flat whites in peace.

Circus Zyair is full throttle from start to finish, with acrobats and stunt moments that make the whole crowd gasp at the same time.
