Things to do this week including: Kaleb Cooper, A Theatre Royal Séance, And Sherwood Vegan Market!

Morning! Happy New Year, and hope Christmas treated you well and you managed to switch off, or at least put a decent performance in. This is the first real week back so the diary is warming up rather than going full throttle, but there are still a few solid reasons to leave the sofa.

Kaleb Cooper is in town on Wednesday for sharp stories and even sharper opinions, Friday brings a spooky Theatre Royal night that is theatre dressed as a séance, and Saturday has Sherwood Vegan Market for hot food and cake decisions you will defend with your whole chest. Keep some space later this month because the calendar starts doing much more.

🗓️ WHAT’S HAPPENING THIS WEEK?

🗣️ - An Evening With Kaleb Cooper - Farming Stories, Strong Opinions, and Dry One Liners
📍 - Royal Concert Hall
📅 - Wed 7th January
⏰ - 7:30 PM
🎟️ - £36.50
📷 - @royalnottingham

Kaleb Cooper is bringing an evening of honest chat, sharp anecdotes, and plenty of laughs, with the kind of opinions that land like a tractor reversing in silence. Doors open at 6:30 PM, then it runs in two parts with an interval. Under 14s need to be with an adult, so it is a family plan or a child free night out, depending on your life choices.

🍔 SCRUMPTIOUS SCOOP

🍣 - Uchi West Bridgford - Sushi, Skewers, and The “Let’s Share” Trap
📍 - 26 Gordon Road, West Bridgford
📅 - Tues to Thurs 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM, 4:30 PM to 10:00 PM
📅 - Fri & Sat 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM
📅 - Sun 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM
📷 - @uchiwestbridgford
🌐 - uchiwestbridgford.co.uk

Uchi is made for groups that start sensible, then quietly lose all discipline. Sushi and skewers lead the way, with bao buns, gyoza, ramen, and rice bowls turning up as they are ready.

It works for an easy lunch or a longer evening, and the drinks list covers cocktails, sake, and Japanese whisky for anyone stretching the night.

🎭 ACTIVITY ALLEY

🥬 - Sherwood Vegan Market - Hot Food, Cakes, and Zero Chance You Leave Empty Handed
📍 - Sherwood United Reformed Church
📅 - Sat 10th January
⏰ - 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM
🎟️ - Free entry
📷 - @sherwoodveganmarket

Sherwood Vegan Market is the kind of Saturday plan that starts as a quick browse and ends with you carrying three bags and pretending it was all essential. Plenty of hot food for an early lunch, a serious cake lineup for the walk home, savouries that somehow sneak into your hands, plus craft stalls for the “I’ll just have a look” crowd. It is all in the main hall and car park at the church, so it is easy to wander, graze, and keep looping back for one more bite. Good option if you want something social, low effort, and deliciously distracting.

🎭 FRESH EXPERIENCES

🔮 - Ghosts Of The Theatre Royal: Haunted Theatre Energy, Without The Actual Haunting
📍 - Royal Concert Hall
📅 - Fri 9th January
⏰ - 7:30 PM (doors 6:30 PM)
🎟️ - Standard tickets available, VIP £14 (limited)
📷 - @royalnottingham

This is one hour of spooky theatre dressed up as Victorian spiritualism, staged inside the Theatre Royal Dress Circle Foyer, with illusion, storytelling, and the Spirit Cabinet doing its thing. The show is strictly entertainment, not a real séance, and it is 16 plus, so it stays deliciously dark. VIP tickets add a 20 minute after session with just 40 spots, candlelit tables, and an extra close up experience that leans into the theatrics even harder.
